Mushishi Season 1

This is the first season of the Mushishi anime series. It contains 26 episodes that aired from October 23, 2005 to June 19, 2006. The first season experienced a brief hiatus in March after Episode 20, but resumed airing shortly after in May with the final 6 episodes.

An OVA titled Special Episode: Sun-eating Shadow (Tokubetsu-hen: Hi Hamu Kage) aired on January 4, 2014, after the final episode of the first season but before the second season, Mushishi Zoku Shou, aired.

The opening song for this season is "The Sore Feet Song" by Ally Kerr.

A village head summons Ginko to cure the villagers from hearing problems caused by Mushi, and to cure her grandson who has sprouted four horns from his forehead.

Ginko pays a visit to a man named Jin who has premonitions in his dreams as a result of a Mushi affliction caused by Imeno no Awai.
5 "The Traveling Swamp"

Ginko is traveling through the mountains to see his friend, Adashino. Along the way, he meets a girl named Io, who lives inside a swamp that is capable of moving by itself.

Ginko's services are requested by a boy named Nagi, who lives on a distant island, to investigate the case of Akoya, a girl revered by the people as a "Living God".
7 "Raindrops and Rainbows"

Ginko encounters a man named Koro, who has a strange habit of pursuing rainbows, and helps him find one particular rainbow that he is looking for - the Kouda.
8 "Where Sea Meets Man"

Ginko meets a man named Shirou on a shore who has been waiting two-and-a-half years for his wife Michihi to return after she mysteriously disappeared in the sea after an encounter with some strange sea snakes.
9 "The Heavy Seed"

Ginko visits a village where bountiful harvests always occur after natural disasters. However, after every harvest, an individual in the village falls ill and dies.
10 "The White Which Lives Within the Ink Stone"

After some children sneak into Adashino's storage shed and find an ink stone, they become mysteriously ill. Soon, when Adashino is unable to find the reason for their lowering body temperatures, he calls upon Ginko for help.

While traveling, Ginko passes through a town settled near a mountain. He learns that a Mushi Master is living on the mountain, but hasn't visited the village for quite some time, and every person who had been sent to find him has fallen ill and died.

13 "One-Night Bridge"

Ginko arrives in a village where a villager girl named Hana fell from a bridge three years ago. Though she apparently survived the fall, she is not the person she used to be anymore, to the despair of Zen, the young man who loves her.
14 "Inside the Cage"

While traveling through a bamboo forest, Ginko encounters a man who somehow can't leave the forest, no matter how much he tries. Curiously, the man's wife and child also share the same issue.
15 "Pretense of Spring"

While traveling through the mountains, Ginko is given shelter, meeting a girl and her little brother while he is there. He later learns that every winter, the boy will go missing until he finally returns in spring.
16 "Sunrise Serpent"

Ginko meets Kaji, a ferry-boy who is worried about his mother Sayo who is suffering from severe memory-loss.
17 "Pickers of Empty Cocoons"

Ginko is worried about the girl who makes the cocoons used as mailboxes by the Mushishi, as she is still searching for her sister who disappeared when they were children.

Ginko gets his hands on a coat apparently possessed by a mushi. Hoping to figure out the truth, he starts looking for the coat's first owner.

20 "A Sea of Writings"

Ginko comes to a house which has a library full of mushi-related scrolls. There, he meets the girl who writes the scrolls, and hears the story of the curse that has been afflicting her family for generations.

Ginko visits a village to meet Yahagi, a Mushishi who believes she has discovered a new species of Mushi named Kagebi that takes the form of a strange weed. When Ginko learns that Yahagi plans to burn the weeds to protect the village, he attempts to interfere.

When Ginko was a child, he lived for a while with the Watari, a group of nomads, which every year visited a mysterious mountain. Among the nomads, there is another boy, Isaza, who befriends Taku, the son of the family who owns the mountain. Their friendship grows despite them barely seeing each other.
